Grant and I recently had the pleasure of embarking on the Calypso Great Barrier Reef Snorkel Adventure, and let me tell you, it was a day for the books!

A Perfect Day on the Water
The weather? Absolutely glorious! The sun was shining, the water was sparkling, and the wind forecast of 15 knots didn’t faze us one bit. The Calypso boat felt like a floating lounge—spacious, comfy, and perfect for lounging between snorkels.

The crew welcomed us aboard with big smiles and handed us all the essentials: snorkel gear, fins, and stinger suits (because who wants to mess with jellyfish?).
Bonus: those suits doubled as sun shields, so we didn’t end up looking like lobsters by the end of the day.
Exploring Opal Reef
Our first stop was Bashful Bommie, and what a start it was! We had a front-row seat to an octopus hiding in a stunning large coral. Honestly, it felt like we were watching a nature documentary.
Next up, SNO Bommie and Blue Boy, where the reef’s vibrant coral gardens played host to countless colourful fish.
The highlight? Finding Nemo! (Yes, the actual clownfish.) It’s safe to say we were smiling like little kids.
Lunchtime Delights
Midway through the adventure, we were treated to a delicious cold buffet for lunch. The spread included a variety of meats, fresh salads, and condiments that added a delightful touch. It was the perfect fuel to keep us energised for more underwater exploration—and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good meal with a view of the open ocean?
A Magical Ending
Just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, nature threw us a curveball—a pod of dolphins decided to join us on the ride back! They leapt and swam alongside the boat as if they were saying, “Hope you had fun!” It was pure magic and the cherry on top of an incredible day.
