Can you explore the Daintree Rainforest by yourself?
Yes you can!
Please note that due to Cyclone Jasper the road to Cape Tribulation is damaged and not all parts are accessible. Please contact us for the latest update on access and road conditions before you head off on your self-drive adventure to the Daintree Rainforest.
The road to Cape Tribulation is smooth and well-maintained, allowing for easy self-driving. Plan for a full day of exploring from Port Douglas, and pick up a map from our shop before you go.
You’ll have to cross the Daintree River by ferry to enter the Daintree National Park, this ferry runs from 5:00 am-midnight daily. Once you’re across the Daintree River you’ll be right in the middle of the Daintree Rainforest.
The challenge when exploring the Daintree by yourself is to find ways to learn about the rainforest without having a guide with you.
Consider the following options:
Join a wildlife river cruise – While the main objective of these cruises is to spot crocodiles, the guide will also provide interesting information about the Daintree.
Visit the Daintree Discovery Centre: Follow the boardwalk and listen to the audio guide to learn more about the rainforest. You can also climb the tower for an incredible view of the rainforest’s canopy.
Go Ziplining with Treetops Adventures at Cape Tribulation. You will ‘fly’ through the rainforest and the team will explain about the rainforest in between ziplines.
