The best time of year to visit Port Douglas depends on what you’re looking for in your trip.

Winter in Port Douglas

If you’re looking for warm and dry weather, then the best time to visit Port Douglas is between May and October. During these months, the weather is usually sunny and warm with low humidity, around 25 degrees celcius (77 fahrenheit).

Do keep in mind that this is also the bussiest time of year in Far North Queensland. Expect lots of families enjoying a tropical holiday, especially during the Australian School Holiday (click this link to check the dates)

Accommodation prices will be a bit higher during these winter months in Port Douglas, but the stunning weather is worth it for sure.

Summer in Port Douglas

On the other hand, if you want to experience Port Douglas during its wet season, which is from December to March, you will see lush, green vegetation and beautiful waterfalls.

Expect temperatures around 30 – 35 degrees Celcius (85-95 Fahrenheit and high humidity. Perfect for a day on the reef, relaxing around the pool, and a refreshing swim in one of the many beautiful natural swimming holes in Far North Queensland.

The rainfall during this season can be heavy, but it usually doesn’t last long, and with the warmer temperatures it is very pleasant.

Port Douglas Accommodation and flight into Cairns will be a bit cheaper during these months, perfect for a budget holiday in Port Douglas!

Our personal favourite months in Port Douglas are September and October. With temperatures in the high 20’s (82 Fahrenheit), many sunny days and a light breeze, it is simply paradise.
